Did you know that according to Webster’s New World College Dictionary there are 26 definitions of Free and 7 definitions of Liberty? The definitions of ‘free’ range from being able to leave at anytime to not being held or burdened by debt and discomfort. While, according to Webster’s Dictionary, liberty is a particular right. Freedom and liberty are both rights that every American should and will obtain under the Free Liberty regime. As your Free Liberty Party, we promise to give those definitions to the great people of this prosperous land. Essentially, we are letting you were the pants, because who better to wear the pants than you, the people who made the pants and who made America.
Hello America, I am Jessie Lambing, the presidential candidate from the Free Liberty Party. Today I am here to discuss our main issue- the future. A wise man once said, “The future is that time when you’ll wish you’d done what you aren’t doing now.” The future doesn’t have to be that way though; as your Free Liberty Party we promise a sound and secure future. The future isn’t just ours, but our children’s, and our children’s children, that should be reason enough to make it the best it can possibly be. The easiest way to secure a good future is to educate our children. It has once been said that “education is the portal to the future.”
The Free Liberty Party would like to inform all Americans about the current neglect of education in the United States. Did you know that in Georgia alone, only nineteen percent of the seventy-six percent who are high school graduates will graduate from college? This is because not all Americans can afford a higher education, while the other percent are simply not accepted due to their heritage or race. With our current economic situation, it would only benefit us more if the graduation rates were much higher.
The Free Liberty Party believes middle class families should get tax breaks to pay for college. The mass-majority of America is defined as the middle class. It is the middle class that drives economic growth, which is why we believe a new policy should go in effect to help out the middle class family. The average family in America has two children in it. With a tax break, the average family with two children, could possibly send both kids instead of just none or one kid to a higher institute of learning. By sending at the least one more kid from each family to college, it will essentially help to enhance our economy in multiple ways.
Getting a college degree is a key component to helping students achieve their dreams. The median salary of a college graduate is about 60% higher than that of a high-school graduate. Our plan for higher education would ease burdens and lessen students' debt and allow them to more easily pursue their goals and aspirations. This minor change has the potential to be highly effective economically.
Did you know that Racial quotas for public colleges were declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in the case of Bakke v. California. Since then, public colleges seeking to increase diversity have used other types of affirmative action. Currently the majority of institutes of higher education in this country run on some sort of racial quota system. No matter what you are black, white, purple, or even green, if you are the straw that makes the university surpass its’ quota or if you don’t fit the admissions offices needs, they could technically deny you entry. Do you remember a time when you had to fill in a circle next to your race? Maybe it was when you took the PSAT last week, or even the SAT or ACT. These are all college preparatory test. Why should race be an issue in going to college? You may share a race or heritage with millions of people, but it is also something that is all your own- it cannot be taken away from you. As the great Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Let us not be judged by the color of our skin, but by the content of our character.” Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream that one day we would all be considered equal, but under the racial quota policy, equality isn’t really a factor. So let’s put an end to this nonsense because we are all Americans and shouldn’t be denied acceptance based on our race or heritage. “The State shall not classify any individual by race, ethnicity, color, or national origin in the operation of public education, public contracting, or public employment.” By enforcing a color blind- law, the opportunities are endless especially in education.
If institutes of higher education were made easier to be accepted into, by means of tax-breaks and color blind laws, our future will be a brighter, more prosperous place. By implementing these issues, our economy could return to its’ thriving state. Ultimately these issues create more jobs. Jobs will be created, because colleges will need more employees due to more students. Also, Colleges will need more housing and buildings due to the new found excess of students. And eventually the students of the colleges will return to the work force. Fundamentally this creates an endless, flourishing cycle; therefore, these issues are economically sound.
There is another issue we would like to address today. The Free Liberty Party believes Federal dollars should be used to start voucher programs that would create competition in the public school system. We also believe a parent with a child in a failing school should have the right to send his or her child to a better school system that will meet the needs of that child. Brian Burch, the president of Fidelis says, “"Rather than subjecting kids to rotting schools, vouchers have brought change to hundreds of families, who opted for private or parochial schools.” Essentially these issues will enhance the learning experience for all students by creating competition amongst schools. With the rise of the competition, more schools will rise to the occasion; thus creating a more productive learning environment. America already provides people with one of the best education systems in the world, but with a little time and little effort, it could and will, someday, be the greatest in the world.
America prides itself on being equal and fair. Equal, in my opinion is giving everyone an opportunity to succeed. However, that is not the way the current education system works. How can we consider ourselves fair and equal when you can be denied access to college based on race and income? How can we consider ourselves fair and equal when children in a failing school must remain at a failing school? As the late John F. Kennedy would say, “All of us do not have equal talent, but all of us should have an equal opportunity to develop our talent.” By electing me, Jessie Lambing, I will allow America to progress to the future by creating a fairer and more equal environment for you, America.
Charles Kettering, an engineer and an apostle of progress, once said, “We should all be concerned about the future because we will have to spend the rest of our lives there.” With the Free Liberty Party, there is no reason to fret about the future. We promise to keep America thriving in everything it does. We promise every American an equal right to education. Because without education, where is our future? America try on you pants, because with Free Liberty you, a taxpayer, and an overall contributor to America, finally gets to wear the pants.
